Oct 2, 2014 As a special pre-event to Ryerson’s Social Justice Week, a Ryerson student group is hosting a workshop this afternoon called “Rethinking Sustainability Beyond 2015.”The Politics and Governance Student’s Association (POGSA) is co-hosting the event with Academics Stand Against Poverty (ASAP) to discuss multiple challenges of sustainability.POGSA aims to engage the Ryerson community with what the global framework will look like in the next few years as UN’s Milliennium Developmental Goals (MDGs) expire in 2015.Christopher Gore, Ryerson professor of politics and public administration, will lead a discussion period at 3 p.m. about “Perspectives on Sustainability: From Global to Local.” There will also be brief presentations by Hayden King, director of Ryerson’s Centre for Indigenous Governance; Richard Sandbrook, emeritus professor of political science at University of Toronto; and Cheryl Teelucksingh, associate professor of sociology at Ryerson University.Stephen Lewis, Distinguished Visiting Professor Ryerson University and former UN Special Envoy for HIV-AIDS in Africa, will deliver the keynote address for the workshop at 5 p.m.Have a question or comment? The Ontario United Front of Hong Kong Students March Oct 1, 2014 - 1:31 PM EST Today is National Day in China. While the people in Hong Kong participate in the biggest rallies yet, Canadian students are joining the fight for democracy. The Ontario United Front of Hong Kong Students is hosting a march today from 2 p.m.- 3 p.m. The march goes from the University of Toronto to the Hong Kong Economic & Trades Office. There, participants will tie yellow ribbons onto the gates and deliver a letter of petition. University campuses are participating from all around Ontario including: Ryerson, U of T, Western and Carleton.
