Live blog: TRSM career centre referendum

Students voted all week and the Ryersonian was there when the tally was in

Students at the Ted Rogers School of Management overwhelmingly voted to pay a new fee to support the creation of a career centre.
About 20 percent of the students in the school voted, and more than 86% of them voted 'yes' for the centre, which is scheduled to be in operation as soon as fall 2012.

"The students have spoken, they obviously see the value in what we proposed. We are really excited to be able to support the students." Mark Patterson, Ryerson director of employment partnerships. The Ryersonianvia mobile on Nov 10, 2011 at 4:39 PM
Some students sent their message to the blog, describing why they voted yes.
"It's something we needed, we are catching up with other universities now." Hassaan Khan, 3rd year accounting student. The Ryersonianvia mobile on Nov 10, 2011 at 4:47 PM
Abdullah Snobar, Ryerson manager of undergraduate student relations and development, notes that business students were involved with the referendum campaign.

"The students designed all the ads for the referendum. When you give them the power they run with it until the end. We were very excited and still are!" said Abdullah Snobar, Ryerson manager of undergraduate student relations and development. The Ryersonianvia mobile on Nov 10, 2011 at 4:54 PM

Ryerson student union president Caitlin Smith says she supports the vote, but she wished an alternative was considered.

RSU President Caitlin Smith has joined us live on the phone, she said the following: "
It is a difficult situation. I am glad that students have a chance to say yes or no, But now business students are in a position where they have to pay for two career centres. I would have rather seen other options, like building up the existing career centre. "The RyersonianNov 10, 2011 at 5:03 PM
