Welcome to tonight's Ryerson Rams Basketball double-header live-blog. We're just about ten minutes away from the first game between the lady Rams and the Laurentian Voyageurs. Should be an exciting couple hours of basketball!
Despite a loss to Windsor last week, the Rams are making big strides nationally receiving their first top 10 ranking in the program's history coming in at #8.
The team is 3-1 going into tonight's game against a Laurentian that's 2-1 on the season, coming off an impressive 67-58 win over Carleton.
This is a big game for a Rams team that wants to cement its status in the CIS top 10.
Rams are starting off on the right foot here in the pre-game warm-up. Playing 0-100 and Collard Greens is something I definitely approve of.
Rams starting five tonight is the same as it is every game, no changes: Cara Tiemins, Keneca Pingue-Giles, Mariah Nunes, Annie Sokoloff and Silvana Jez.
Rams lose the opening tip-off, but immediately regain possession after a Voyageurs error, they miss the corner 3 and it's back the other way.
Cara Tiemins at the line. She drains both for Ryerson's first points of the game.
Solid defense so far by the Rams, holding the Voyageurs to zeroes early on.
Laurentian takes a timeout at the six minute mark. I'm assuming it's because they simply can't penetrate the wall Ryerson has built on D. Still no points for the Voyageurs who are down 6-0.
Pingue-Giles doing what she does best and drives the lane for two. She leads the team in points-per-game and you can see why there.
It's currently 9-0 for Ryerson so I'm waiting very patiently for Laurentian to score a basket to make it 9-2 so I can make a joke at the Leafs expense.
There it is, Laurentian scores their first points of the game and it's now 9-2 Rams. For once the hometown Toronto team is the one up 9-2 instead of the other way around.
Big three from Didomenico. Rams have been just dominant so far. Not even close right now. They lead 17-3 with just under a minute to go.
Timeout for Ryerson and the DJ is playing Stronger by Kanye. Whoever is controlling the tunes needs a raise right now, killing it,
At the end of the first quarter it's 20-3 for the Rams. They're shooting 50% from the field which is good! What's better is that they've held somehow held Laurentian off to a 6.7% mark.
Seriously, Laurentian has made 1 shot out of 15. My expert analysis says they should consider scoring more.
The Voyageurs have heard my ideas and have decided to implement them in the second quarter. They're 2/2 from the field in this quarter.
One reason the Rams are up big right now? Getting a big chunk of the rebounds on offence and defence. They're out re-bounding the Voyageurs 16-6 right now.
Another timeout, another classic jam. Ms. Jackson by Outkast? Yes. 1000 times yes.
The Rams are up 31-10 right now and I will credit at least 25% of that to in-game pump-up music. It's important.
I feel a little bad for Laurentian right now for three reasons.
1. They're down huge, like Looney Tunes vs. Monstars huge.
2. They came all the way from Sudbury for this.
3. That they have to go back to Sudbury after this.
The Rams are raining threes down on the Voyageurs. I'm pretty sure they have more 3's than Laurentian has 2's. Let me check this out.
Yes, I was right.
Ryerson from 3: 4/7
Laurentian from 2: 3/25
The first half is over. The score?
44-13 Ryerson. It's a close one!
Ryerson has been on fire and looks every bit the top 10 team they're being billed as.
It's half-time so here's some photos from the last quarter.
EXCLUSIVE SCOOP: Half time entertainment featured a half-court shot to win a $50 OneCard. Shooting? A member of the Rams men's team.
I mean, if we're getting members of the Rams to take the shot can we at least get Eggy? Now that would be entertaining.
Some Halftime Stats:
From the Field
Rams: 16/33 (48.5%)
Voyageurs: 4/35 (11.4%)
Rams: 7/12 (58.3%) (!!!)
Voyageurs: 0/13 (0%)
Second half about to start. DJ is playing Mercy right now, something Laurentian is probably hoping for.
Laurentian gets a basket to cut the lead to 33... the score is now 50-17. This one maaaaaaay be over.
Ryerson's most lopsided victory this year was against Waterloo where they won 81-47. Something tells me this game surpasses that.
Hey look at that, Laurentian drained a 3-ball after only a million tries.
Ryerson is still committed to chanting defence over and over again as if their 32 point lead would evaporate if they stopped chanting. Gotta love the moxie.
Pingue-Giles has a game high of 15 points. She's been a force in the paint.
Final score for this one, Rams 61 Voyageurs 27... Wait. There's still another quarter left? Poor girls.
I'm pretty sure the people behind me are from the Laurentian side because they keep complaining about blown calls. Yes, just a few more calls the other way and maybe it's 61-40 instead of 61-27.
