Prosecuting War Crimes
Ryersonian reporter Sameera Raja will be bringing to you the International Issues Discussion (IID) Series lecture live. "Prosecuting War Crimes" will be presented by guest speaker and chair of peace and conflict studies at University Of Toronto, Ron Levi. The lecture will look at global affairs, international prosecution, crime and violence, along with urban governance. Stay tuned!

Levi speaks about the alliance of prosecutors and journalists. "You need to align the media to get budget bureaucrats." By aligning the fields, prosecutors needed coverage from the media for their trials...etc. Including American trials in foreign countries.

Audience member asks if is there any hope in ways of prosecuting international leaders in African countries through ICC. Levi says that some states agreed to join ICC, and that more cases should be brought to international courts rather than the theory to bring atrocities to light and to have in country prosecutions rather than international.

Audience member asks: "How does the media change prosecutions?"
Levi says we see the media's interest like in the Yugoslavia case. Media plays the role to attract the audience, but you have to attract the media. Levi says it's important how to narrow the space between the media as an alliance and pitch them a case. -
