Protesters expected to disrupt men's issues awareness event at U of T

The clash between men's issues awareness groups and a coalition of various U of T student groups is expected to continue. Tonight's talk is titled "From Misogyny and Misandry to Intersexual Dialogue" - but groups promise a "militant" response to the hosted event. • Hi folks, thanks for tuning in with us. It's been a long evening for our reporter at the scene. He has a few more posts to upload and will then continue working away at a detailed story that will be published at The Ryersonian shortly. We will be sure to have it on our webpage as possible. If you have comments, questions, concerns you can always tweet us @theryersonian or email us at theryersonian@gmail.com.
  • In this video, Samuel was inside the hall recording the protest. Near the end you will hear the fire alarm sounding and Samuel makes his way to safely exit the building. He gets obstructed by a masked fellow and has some questionably interaction with other masked individuals that quickly leave the property.
Samuel writes: This is the video in which I was obstructed by the fellow with a the mask.

  • Protestors are now in the hallway outside the lecture hall. One wonders how their voices will sound tomorrow morning.

  • Welcome to the Ryersonian liveblog coverage of the U of T Men's Issues Awarenesss Society event "From Misogyny & Misandry to Intersexual Dialogue".

Just as a little background - when a similar event was held later last year a number of protestors attempted to block entrance to the lecture hall. In the end the police were called out and things got a little nasty.

The group that is serving as an "umbrella" of sorts for men's issues groups that have been attempting to pop up on campuses is called CAFE (Canadian Association For Equality).

The group is not without controversy and has drawn flack from some feminists. They see it as an anti-women, anti-feminist front for "men's rights".

CAFE has stated in a press release that "Groups Promise 'Militant' Response to Thursday's Building Dialogue on Sexism U of T Event"

Stay tuned - it could be an interesting night if protestors decide to show up.
