It's great that we still give respect as a country to veterans every November 11th. It's important not to forget the sacrifices veterans made for the sake of this country. But it's also important to take a moment and reflect on why war exists and encourage a discourse between Canadians about our foreign policy regarding world conflicts. War is terrible and Canada still participates in armed conflicts...we have a responsibility as citizens to understand why and how and discuss this actively.

I believe it's important to recognize our history and the people who have been lost to war, but as a Mennonite and a pacifist I feel conflicted about wearing a poppy. Instead I wear a red button that says "To remember is to work for peace."

I'd hate to have a vet see me this month without a poppy. It's an easy way to show our appreciation.
